On a day when the weather was kind and the greens had benefitted from the close attention of the head greenkeeper Pennard's James Frazer underlined his class by producing the the best round of the morning 69, and went 1 better in the afternoon (68) to produce the only two sub-Par rounds of the day.
The morning round showed some players struggling slightly to come to terms with greens running at 11 on the Stimpmeter. However behind james there was a group of 6 players within one shot on either 72 or 73.
County Captain Richard Hooper followed the morning 73 with a 70 to take second place on 143. Third on count-back after following a 72 with a 71 was Neath's Craig Melding. Fourth was Cardiff's Alex baker on 144 after two 72's.
The third place meant that Craig Melding had 60 points in the Order of Merit, a tie with Mike Hearne, who had to miss the Baffie as he is in University in the US.

James Frazer's two round total of 143 (72, 71) was just enough to give him the win in the Glamorganshire Baffie.
Second placed Mike Hearne (Southerndown) was just edged into second place by James' second round 71 to Mike's 73. Mike had the satisfaction that his second place was enough to take the overall Order of Merit as the leader, Tom Rees was back at University in the States.
Craig Melding (Neath) underlined his promise, his second round 70 for 144 giving him third place in a count-back from County Champion Ian Flower (Mountain Ash) and County Captain Richard Hooper (Neath).

FINAL TABLE
With a course record breaking 63 in the first round Gareth Phillips (Creigiau) took the Glamorganshire Baffie with a two round aggregate of 139. Leigh Ivory (Wenvoe Castle) was second with 144 (73/71) and County player Mike Hearne (Southerndown) third on 145 (71/74).
With County Captain Richard Hooper finishing joint 7th Gareth's victory meant he was the 2009 Carling C2 Order of Merit winner by a margin of 21 points. With maximum points in three events and 20 plus points in the County Championship Gareth's win emphasises what the Order of Merit is all about - consistency through the season. This consistency is the same as James Frazer showed in 2008 and hopefully Gareth can go on to match James' achievements at the highest levels of Welsh golf.
Leading positions and points:
The clash with the Champion of Champions at Cradoc deprived the event of some of the current County team, and although this was unlikely to have affected the result of the Baffie or the Order of Merit this year a change of date is being examined for future years.
