COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2010

RADYR GOLF CLUB 08/08/2010

Two sub-Par Rounds give Ian Flower Mountain Ash the County Championship with the Championship's lowest aggregate score.

Radyr, being used for the Championship for the first time provided almost ideal weather with virtually no wind in the morning and a fairly gentle breeze in the afternoon. Taking full advantage of the conditions, and a course with true putting surfaces, Ian Flower of Mountain Ash became County Champion with two sub-par rounds of 67 and 66 .

Round 1 CSS 70

Players generally found conditions to their liking there were a number of scores in the low 70's. As the later groups came in scoring improved and at the end of the round there were 67's from Tom Rees and Ian Flower with 3 69's from Gareth Phillips (Creigiau), Luke Thomas (Vale), and Rhys Jones (Creigiau). Creigiau, with three scores of 69 or better, had a seamingly unassailable lead in the Team Championship. Ian's round with two birdies and 16 pars was a superb display of consistent golf. Mike Hearne showed there was trouble out there with a 73 where he played 17 holes 1 under par but had just one freak hole.

Round 2 CSS 70

.The slight breeze pushed scores up slightly for almost everyone except Ian. Who deservedly took the Championship with the only sub-par round of the afternoon, a superb 66 whch included 4 birdies and only 1 bogey. No-one else broke and thus Ian's 133 took the Championship by 5 shots from Tom with Gareth a further shot back in third place. A fine performance by the Vale's consistent 16 year-old, Ryan Thomas with 71 and 70 (how the Welsh think they have 11 better players than Ryan for their boys' team is a mystery) gained him fourth spot on count back from club-mate Luke Thomas. Mike Hearne produced a 70 and was left

In the Team Championship Creigiau's unassaible lead was just that and they triumphed by a massive 15 shots over the home course team Radyr.
