County Seniors' Championship 2009

As always Cardiff proved a true test of golf and its SSS of 70 was difficult to achieve. Very few managed it and, with the exception of the winner all afternoon players found it difficult to get near to their handicap.

Cardiff player Nigel Jones, in spite of being in the second oldest age category posted an early 77 gross and this lead the field until, playnig in the last group Seniors International Keith Stimpson (Wenvoe Castle) carded a 71 to take the Championship by a staggering 6 shots. Graham Harcombe (Southerndown) with a 78 was third.

The Nett prize was won by DW Hanson (Fairwood Park)

Neath Friday August 15th.

Following the week;s rainfall the Neath green-keeping staff did a magnificent job in preparing the course for the Championship and Ian Henderson (Wenvoe Castle) took advantage of the "younger man's" conditions to take the Championship with a fine 77 over a course that was playing its full length (and then some). Nick Caulfield completed a Wenvoe double, his 78 just failing to match his clubmates score. The back 3 had to be used to split 3rd and 4th with Clive Blacker (Pontypridd) just edging out Tony Disley (Royal Porthcawl), both returning 80. That the CSS was 74 (SSS+2) shows the difficulty players had on the day.

Cardiff's Peter Allen with a superb 81 nett 71 was the omly player in red figures for the day and took the nett prize with Henderson second, Caulfield third and Blacker fourth.
