A must-win match if the team were to keep hopes of winning the Seniors' Channel League alive proved a tense affair. The Clevedon course with only 3 Par 3's provided a long, fair and interesting test for both teams. The morning foursomes were tight, as would be expected from 9 hole games, but only 1 win two halves and 2 defeats produced a 3 - 2 deficit.
Some fine play in the afternoon from the top 5 players saw disadvantage turned to advantage but, with the exception of David Lyndon Jones (8 up after 9), the last 5 were always under the cosh. However the one victory lower down the order was enough to clinch an 8 - 7 victory.
A notable victory by Nick Caulfield over Welsh Seniors' International John Whitcutt, with both playing excellent golf, meant that Duncan Samuel's last-hole birdie effectively was a match-winner. That there were 2 halved games, 3 games that went to the 18th and 4 more to the 17th reflects the closeess of the match.

The match was played in poor conditions with the players greeted by mist and drizzle in the morning that did not relent. The morning foursomes were all tight and with the policy of playing home players apparently coming unstuck the County held only a slim advantage.
However the afternoon saw fairly comfortable wins and both Southerndown players came good and the County held a 7 - 3 advantage giving a 10 - 5 win overall.
This has restored our fortunes in the Channel League and gives a significant incentive for the last two matches, both away.
Fielding a strong side the County were defeated in the first Sniors' Channel League match played by the County.
The morning foursomes proved crucial, with Gloucestershire taking the honours 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. This two game deficit was just too much to retrieve, although after the first five singles games we were two games to the good. However we could only manage two halves out of the remaining 5 games and went down by 8 games to 7 overall.
