Newcomers Cornwall were an unknown quantity and playing them away was a further complication. Add in that a number of regulars had made themselves unavailable and you have the possibility of an upset.
This looked likely after the foursomes where, almost as usual we made things more difficult by suffering a 3 - 2 loss. Things could have been worse as the two winning games went down the last.
In the singles the story was similar with the first five games going down at least 17. As these concluded with Alan Jones and Eric Torjussen getting a half and a 1 hole win the match was "all square". Nick Caulfield was ahead in game 6 but with games 7 & 8 slipping away it came down to the last two matches. Herbie Herbert secured a 3&2 win so the captain was left to decide the match. Duncan made the most of his experience to secure a 1 hole win ensuring an 8.5 to 6.5 victory.
