2011 South Wales Open Seniors' Championship CSS Rd 1 = 73 Rd 2 = 74 (basic SSS = 72)

Tenby: Jeff Thomas goes one better.

In "friendly" conditions Royal Porthcawl's Jeff Thomas went one better than in 2010 and produced two quality rounds of 73 / 75 to take the South Wales Open Seniors' title he so narrowly missed out on in 2010.

Leading after round 1 with 73 with local Tenby player Brian Cramb also on 73. David Lindquist (Carmarthen) and David Frazer were a shot further back on 74.

The second round saw Glyn Rees (Fleetwood) come storming back in 34 shots for a second round 71 and an aggregate of 149 to take the clubhouse lead from pace - setters David Frazer (Pennard) who had added a 78 to his morning 74 to finish on 152 with Keith Stimpson (Wenvoe) coming back with a 74 to add to his 79 for 153.

Meanwhile Jeff Thomas, having seen off the challenge of his playing partners faltered on 15 with a double bogey. He got one shot back on 16 with a birdie 4 and finished par, par to take the title by one shot. Nigel Evans (St Mellons) completed the prize winners on 153 losing out to keith on the back 18.

Paul Bloomfield Wins at Southerndown.

Ex Whitchurch player Paul Bloomfield surprised many with a superb 144 over the 36 holes to win the inaugural South Wales Open Seniors title. Tied with Royal Porthcawl's Jeff Thomas after both had 73 in round 1 Thomas' 72 couldn't quite match Bloomfield's low round of the Championship 71, finishing with 145 to the winner's 144. In a strong field Garry Huggett's second round of 72 earned him 3rd place ahead of fellow Llanymynach player Basil Griffiths. It was a fine tournament for players from outside the County with David Frazer's 8th position being the next highest Glamorgan player.

CSS was 73 both rounds.
