Channel League Match v Somerset at Taunton & Pickeridge 6/08/08

Another strong singles display by the County U16 team enabled them to defeat Somerset and give them a 100% record in winning the inaugural U16 Channel League. A slow start in the morning foursomes saw them well down in four of those games but a strong finish, especially by the the first two pairs, saw them lead by 3 games to 2 at lunch. Their strength in depth showed clearly in the afternoon singles matches which they won by 8 games to 2, and an overall victory of 11 - 4. Sincere congratulations to all boys concerned ably led by their captain Dale Parry.

Friendly v Dyfed at Neath 31/07/08

The County U16 team just about managed to hold on to their unbeaten 2008 record aginst a very spirited Dyfed side. The morning foursomes were dominated by the Dyfed boys and they were unfortunate to only lead by 3.5 to 1.5 at lunch. Glamorgan however, made a strong start in the afternoon singles winning five of the first six games but that fighting spirit of the Dyfed team's bottom half players looked like giving them victory. Glamorgan's debutant Alex Morgan however had other ideas and from 2 down at the turn won his match on the 17th green to retain his side's unbeaten record. An excellent match, which finished in torrential rain and mist, was played in good spirit and a draw was an apt result on the day.

Channel League match v Gloucestershire at South Herefordshire Golf Club 28/07/08

Despite having four debutants in their line-up, the County Under 16 team proved too strong for Gloucester.Winning by 4.5 games to 0.5 after the morning foursomes played in hot sunny weather, Glamorgan showed their strength in depth in the afternoon singles. Three of the newcomers, Marc Caviell, Tom Griffiths and Tom Harry all comfortably won their matches, but Rhys Jennings (literally a last minute replacement for indisposed Captain Dale Parry) was denied his moment of glory, whilst one up with two to play, by the weather which turned dramatically to thunder and lightning and torrential rain. He and his opponent had to leave the course for their safety and had to accept an honourable half. In what was a very good all round team performance yet again Glamorgan won the singles by 7.5 to 2.5 and an overall victory of 12-3.

Channel League v Gwent at Grove 06/07/08

The Under 16s continued their winning start to 2008 with a 12-3 win over their nearest rivals Gwent. On a blustery morning, both teams found the wind testing with some pin positions that were tucked away in the corners of the greens. With three games being resolved on the Par 3 18th hole, Glamorgan held a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead at lunch. In the afternoon a strong singles performance saw the match decided after the first five matches. In his final match for the team Lawry Cook of Neath signed off with an undefeated record.

Match v Worcestershire Away 08/06/08:

Match Report:

The County Under 16s team produced a powerful performance to defeat Worcestershire Under 16s at Worcester Golf and Country Club.  The Alistair Mackenzie designed course with its narrow fairways, challenging rough and small greens posed a test of golf to both teams.  Every member of the Glamorgan team, which included Rhys Pugh, contributed to the win with positive attacking golf which paid dividends on the warmest day so far this year.

Junior Channel League Match v Wiltshire 27th April 2008

Match Report:

Difficult playing conditions greeted the Under 16 team's first ever Junior Channel League match, against Wiltshire on the Vale of Glamorgan's National Course.Glamorgan narrowly led by 3 matches to 2 after the morning's foursomes, but a very good display in the afternoon singles, which Glamorgan won 7-3, gave the County a comfortable overall victory of 10 matches to 5. This was a very good start to the season despite the unavailability of Rhys Pugh and Patrick Mullins, and it augurs well for the remaining matches ahead.
